We spoke with female DJ Harriet Jaxxon to see what her top 3 tracks were to play this year. Harriet mixes between different genres depending on the crowd she faces. Harriet also told us us how she got into the music scene and what she would define her style is when performing…
Lets kick things off with telling everyone how you got yourself into the music scene?
I did an A level in music technology at college 5 years ago, met some people from my town with the same interests and went on to help run nights and festivals locally which was a great time. They booked Nero, Rudimental, EZ and B Traits (just to name a few) whilst they were all upcoming which gained me a good insight into the events and dance music industry. I learnt basic skills during that time, played a few sets at our events and then bought myself some CDJs and continued to learn! Having the opportunity to go to the Red Bull Major Lazer parties at Notting Hill Carnival and Ram Records events across the country have also had big influences on my music taste.
What would you say your actual music style is when you perform?
I’d say it’s high energy quick mixing with big vocal build ups and heavyweight bass. Highly influenced by the ‘carnival’ sound.
Top 3 Tracks:
1. Redlight – 9TS
Redlight kills it every time. This was the first release from his X Colour album and I remember the first time I heard it I was so excited because it wasn’t like anything I’d ever heard before. I like to play music with vocals as it keeps things interesting… But the bassline on this is what makes it for me!
2. FineArt – Ruffnek
This one has always ended up in my sets over the last year. For me, it’s all about the energy in the build up and early 90’s vibe coming through in the piano melodies and samples used in the track. I can always count on it to get people dancing.
3. Sia – Little Man
I always play some ukg within a set and this is one of the classics. Everyone seems to know this track and it goes off every time. I’ve been playing it regularly for the last few years and won’t stop because it will never get old!
