Touchdown – Deer Jade

We talk to artists as they touchdown in a new city to play a show. We welcome Deer Jade to the interview series.

You can catch Deer Jade at Fabric, London on the 28th May. Event link – Click Here

Q1. So, tell us where you departed from and landed into today?

I departed from Marseille in the South of France and just arrived in Basel, Switzerland!

Q2. Is this a one-off show, or part of a bigger tour? (If a tour, tell us where you have been so far)

Kind of both as I’m now touring around Europe, I get to go home in Berlin from time to time. The last few weeks I was playing in Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Zurich, Amsterdam, London, Madrid, Geneva and Berlin…

Q3. What venue are you playing tonight and who else is on the line up?

I’ll be playing at Das Viertel for A Tribe Called Kotori showcase, alongside the great Oliver Koletzki and Sam Shure. I’ve played a couple of times there already, it’s always a great vibe!

Q4. What is one item you can’t travel without?

My noise cancelling headphones without any doubt! They are my greatest travel friend, they never leave my ears.

Q5. Tell us your typical gig schedule – do you get to see much of the places you visit?

Whenever I can yes! I will try to stay in one place for a couple of days until the next gig, so instead of going home I take one flight less and can explore a new city, go on a new adventure! I love that never two days are the same, there is no such thing as a typical schedule really.

With the help of my agency I try to organize the most efficient tour routing by areas to avoid too much unnecessary back and forth. Focusing on regions one at a time. While still making sure I get a good amount of time at home to be able to produce music and recharge. Finding the balance between the two is the greatest challenge.

Q6. One thing you hate about being on the road?

Would much rather reply with something I love instead….so….

I love the feeling of discovering new places, new things for the first time, having fresh eyes on everything! But if you really want to know what I dislike… I guess all these PCR tests are not making travelling so easy, hopefully we are done with that very soon!

Q7. Finally, tell is the worst / funniest thing that’s happened to you whilst on the road?

Once I had a show somewhere deep in the jungle in Yucatan, Mexico, while we were riding to the location the car broke down, we had no service there and eventually realized we were also on the wrong path, we could hear some music in the distance and the only way to make it to the show on time was to walk directly through the jungle, in the middle of the night, guided by the distant sound of the beats with our phone flashlights as precious allies, not even sure of where we would actually end up if we were actually going the right direction…

We eventually found the place and made it just on time, full of mud but happy like little kids, what an adventure it was we laughed so much at the situation it was definitely the highlight of the night! Hahaha
