We recently travelled down to the amazing Drumcode takeover of London’s Tobacco Dock venue.

We caught up with Kevin Over backstage to see how his performance went, what his biggest highlight is so far of 2016 is, what projects we can expect to hear from him next plus more…

Lets start by talking about how your set went today at Drumcode and what type of style did you play?

Playing at Drumcode today was so special! An amazing location with such a great atmosphere inside the venue. I played 2.5 hours which consisted of new unreleased music, playing in between house and techno.

I hate to define one style, for me its the type of groove that I am playing, like really rough house sounds mixed with darker techno sounds. I always try to blend all my favourite styles into each set I perform.

Whats your most recent project you have released and what label did it come out on?

There are some vinyl records coming out this year on Underground Audio. There are three tracks of mine and there is a remix which is also featured. The vinyl copy will be released December 5th and the Digital download is coming early January 2017.

I am also working on another bigger project for Mobilee records. I am mixing the new Back to Back compilation but this time I am going to feature reworks and remixes of my favourite tracks coming out on the label. There are also some guys doing remixes of my tracks that we have already started selecting tracks…

Whats been your biggest highlight so far from 2016?

It was a weekend earlier in the year playing with the amazing Mobilee guys at Sonar Festival in Croatia. The weather was amazing, lots of good fun and loads of amazing after parties.

Whats been your biggest highlight from your whole DJ career to this date?

This is really spontaneous! My biggest highlight so far has been involved in Amsterdam Dance Event as its always crazy and I get to party with all my friends. Thursday to Monday of pure greatness.

How did you actually become a DJ, what was the process?

Listening to live broadcasts on the radio from raves when I was younger… I’ve got loads of cassettes tape recorded and since then I’ve been hooked to the sensation from the amazing parties I’ve been involved in.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year with your DJ performances?

Playing at Studio Spaces for Drumcode‘s Halloween after party. When saw the location on the internet i was amazed how cool it really looks. Monday I’m going straight to Belgium to play Club Vaag, busy halloween week!

Who would you say has inspired you to become the artist you are today?

I can always name KiNK has my biggest inspiration, he’s an amazing guy and the way he modulates sounds with different grooves in his performances is amazing! He has his own quality way of producing music, thats art and is what keeps the music industry moving.

How do you keep yourself motivated in the studio? 

I get a lot of inspiration from being out at different events hearing other DJs perform. A massive name who motivates me is listening to Mr. G His 70s funky style which is developing more and more in clubs is amazing.

Whats your relationship with Noir? 

The connection with Noir is special because he was the first label boss who was signing my music. There was a really important time when he pushed me as I had just recently released an EP which had gained a massive reach. It was played by huge DJs across the world and that really is an amazing feeling.

I sent him a lot of music and it took longer than a year to get the follow up done. This was a time where I was also kind of depressed because my motivation went down… I sent him a lot of my music and he didn’t say any of it was ready to be released. This was the right decision to wait for the right track!
