Junction 2, an urban festival in the city of London goes again this year, and to warm things up, they threw a party at Tobacco Dock.

Taking over from the talented Rhymos, who’s recently released music on Ben Rau’s label; Modeselektor took over with early 3PM set delivering heavy dark techno which when situated in that East London Car Park, you cannot help but appreciate the unique gritty ambiance presented to newcomers and regulars, it’s not surprising this venue’s lower floor is always the flagship talking point around the country.

Leaving the Car Park, and up a couple staircases you find one of the other third rooms, Great Gallery, we head here to see the Italian duo, Mind Against; another dark but unique techno act. Production at this event brings the crowd closer to acts, opening up the stage to all punters, allowing more space for those savvy enough to realise this additional dance floor was an option.

We were really excited to see Sonja Moonear, Switzerland’s extremely cheerful talent. Playing in the (not-so-little) Gallery, with a smile on her face the whole set, she played dark techno with bouncy twangs. Event organisers, LWE, opened up the space this year, moving VIP to another part of the venue which practically doubled the size of the space, and as a result, meant the room was not known this time around as The Little Gallery, but just, The Gallery.

For the final two hours, The Great Gallery hosted Drumcode boss Adam Beyer, partnered with Ida Engberg. The techno set you’d expect this duo to produce.

LWE, Junction 2 and Tobacco Dock. A combination of unsurprisingly brilliant production and artists giving us a taste of what’s to come later this year for Junction 2’s now even more highly anticipated motorway underpass festival.
