An Interview With – Max Chapman

We recently caught up with Max Chapman to see what he’s been up to recently and to see what he has upcoming the pipeline.

Hi mate, how you doing? Firstly, what new music do you have coming out in the next few months?

Im very well and very rested over the holidays thank you! I have a Single on Moxy coming out on digital and vinyl in March. I also have a a couple of remix coming out too which I’m super happy with. I have a Resonance EP in April and something coming this year on South for George Smeddles.

Have you had any recent releases out you can tell us about?

I’ve just had one of my biggest and best releases in my opinion, it was on Prunk’s Label PIV and the track was called ‘Strung Up’. I’ve also had a remix for my good mate Iglesias out on Neverdogs Label Bamboleo which I’m quite proud of.

Do you have any exciting upcoming bookings you can tell us about that are coming up?

I’m off to South America on tour in Feb, a few in Europe in March then I’m over in Australia in April.

How did you first get into music and what were your early inspirations to get into underground music?

I was always into music as a kid but not really house music. I saved up the money to buy some decks to primarily mix rnb but I later found that I had a love for electronic music and eventually got into production around 20 years old. I went to a friends house and he had a production set up in his bedroom and I couldn’t believe he was making music in his room so I went and bought everything he had and the rest is history.

If you could work with any artist away from dance music, who would it be and why?

I would love to work with The Weeknd. Believe it or not he is the only person I’ve ever seen at a concert. His voice is incredible and I love every record he makes.

Do you have any releases you’d like to talk about on your own label?

So as I mentioned earlier I have a 2 track EP coming soon on my label with a remix from a good friend of mine. It’s a typical Max Chapman release but I’m very happy with the records. I’m looking to self release a lot more in the future too so keep following the label!

We’ve seen on your socials that you were in the studio with Rag’n’Bone Man, can you tell us anything about that?

So we have one more session left on the record, he’s been on a world tour and has just finished so we are back in the studio in the next couple of weeks to make the final touches. It’s a single and is currently unsigned but I’m hoping we will have lots of choice when it comes to releasing it.

It’s a collaboration between Rory (Rag ‘n’ Bone Man), myself and Mischief. I’m super excited to share it and so gassed to have worked with such a fantastic artist and amazing person. He truly is a gentle giant. Mischief is also a very creative producer and it’s always great working with him too. We were looking to release it in spring but I feel it may be later in the year now.

What does your music production setup consist of in the studio?

These days I’m almost fully digital. I used to use hardware all the time but I find the workflow is halted far more and the time spent in the studio is doubled using hardware. I like to move efficiently when making music and using soft synths helps massively. They sound so good these days it’s hard to tell the difference. My favourite plug in is Vacuum Pro and it’s the ‘Analog Bass’ preset. It sounds so real!

What’s your top 3 artists who have inspired you to be where you are today?

In the Early days it was Art Department, Jamie Jones and Loco Dice. Nowadays it’s people closer to me like George Smeddles.

Away from dance music, what is your go to music to listen to?

I love all sorts including Popular music. As I mentioned earlier I love the weekend but to be honest it’s mainly 80’s music that I really enjoy listening to.
