For our latest interview on our Behind The Scenes series, we caught up with the duo that make up CYBERSEX, who also run De Reünie. We spoke about what they have upcoming for their events, where they are playing next plus so much more!
Hi guys, nice to catch up with you! How are you doing today?
We’re doing great, thanks! How are you all doing? 🙂
Before we jump into the questions, can you let the readers know exactly what you do within the music industry and how long you’ve been working within the scene?
We’ve been part of the scene since around 2020. Before that, we were spending every weekend at places like Eerste Communie, Spielraum and De School. Those nights really inspired us. Then COVID happened, everything shut down, and instead of waiting around we decided to start DJing and organizing our own raves. That’s basically how De Reünie was born.
How did you come up with the idea of De Reünie and where did the name come from?
The idea came from wanting to bring like-minded people together during the dark days of COVID. We started with really small illegal gatherings, and from there it just kept growing. We ended up doing parties in all kinds of different locations.
One of the most memorable spots was a huge anti-squat laboratory building across from where RAUM is now. It slowly started turning into what felt like an illegal club, and we managed to book artists like Marrøn, Makam, Stranger and Sandrien. Looking back, it was pretty crazy.
Where are you based in the world and where have you been doing parties recently?
We’re based in Amsterdam and have been organising parties successfully for the last five years. Besides our events at home, we’ve also hosted nights at FOLD in London, Watergate in Berlin, and TILLATEC in Berlin. We definitely want to explore Berlin even more in the future.
Do you have any plans to do parties in other countries? What’s the dream?
Definitely. Our dream would be to host a De Reünie edition at Bassiani. That would be something really special.
How would you best describe the sound at your parties?
The sound is pretty diverse. We love giving fresh, upcoming talent a platform while combining them with bigger artists who share the same vision as us. At the core it’s techno and house, but we never want to be boxed into one genre.
Do you have any plans in the pipeline to set up a record label?
Perhaps… who knows. 😉
Do you have any upcoming events planned? If so, where, when, what venue and what artists will be playing?
It’s a busy period for us.
As CYBERSEX, we’re playing on August 1st at Teletech Festival in Manchester alongside artists like Adrian Mills, Bella Claxton and Cloudy.
The day after, we’re playing the Herrensauna x Knit Weekender at TILLATEC with names like Bjarki, Isabelle and Moody Mehran. We’ve also got a big show coming up in Berlin at Club OST together with Mixmag.
With De Reünie, we’ve got an edition at BRET in Amsterdam on August 16th together with The AOS from Hamburg, featuring artists like Baugruppe90, Cybersex and Twiena.
And on October 3rd we’re hosting another edition at the iconic TILLATEC. That one feels extra special, as the club will close its doors for good just a month later. It’s going to be a memorable night.
