We had a chat with Maxine Garman who is a DJ now based in the capital, London.

She spoke with us to tell us how she first got into performing, what we can expect from her own productions in the next coming months, what her favourite track is from the 90’s plus more…

How did you decide on becoming a DJ?

As a kid I used to love choosing music at parties and remember getting a real buzz off seeing people having a good time through the music I was playing. It was when I was properly exposed to House music it became clear the genre I wanted to mix.

I remember feeling amazed by how House music impacts the energy in the room and brings people together. I bought myself some decks and made it a goal to move to London and indulge myself in the scene. From there I started to meet DJ’s and promoters and its been building up from that day!

What can we expect from your own productions in the next coming months?

Since my debut release in March earlier this year I’ve been focusing on developing my sound further, I’m now working full time in the studio building up a catalogue of material, so I’m excited to let everyone hear my work.

My goal is to release an EP this winter and enter 2017 with a schedule of further releases throughout the year. I’ve also just finished a collaboration on a track with Mad Villains, we vibe really well in the studio together and we’ve had loads of ideas bouncing back and fourth so it was an enjoyable project. There will be more news on that release very soon!

Give us 1 benefit of being a female DJ?

There’s no personal benefits I’ve experienced with being a female in this industry. If someone is talented, committed and love what they do then I’d like to think from those things alone that will take them far. The people who I’ve seen succeed in this industry are the ones who work hard, and are passionate about what they do, regardless of gender.

When you perform, what would you class your style of house music as?

I come from the dance floor so I love deep bass lines to get you grooving and I’m a sucker for Male American vocals! I love House and Techno, and like to take my sets on a journey so you can expect a mixture of these two genres in my sets. To sum up my style, its Deep Tech House, with bassy elements.

What’s your favourite track from the 90’s?

Kele Le Roc – My Love‘ is up there as one of my favourites!

Where are you based and how does this benefit your music career?

I’m based in East London now so being in the city feels 100% right for me and I’m in element here surrounded by the music industry. I’m originally from a village near Brighton so if I was living there still I probably wouldn’t have been able to take as many opportunities as I have done.

What I love about London as well is you get to hear raw underground music at so many different venues right on your doorstep, from established and upcoming artists!
