We recently caught up with Lex Luca to see what he has been up to in the studio, what he gets up to away from the studio, what his favourite venue would be to perform plus so much more.
Lex Luca joins Krystal Klear, Loods and the DBE residents on the 28th February at Echo’s nightclub in Loughborough.
What can we expect to hear from your next releases?
I’ve got a few different tracks coming out on some great labels, a mix of House, Tech House and some Disco too.
How would you describe the sound you are currently producing?
Underground House music that is accessible to all.
What’s your favourite plugin to use when making your synth sounds?
Diva & Serum, though these days I tend to go for as much outboard gear as I can. My Novation Peak Synthesiser is my latest addition!
If you could play anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I’ve been lucky to have played in some very cool spots from Ibiza, Berlin, Croatia, Mexico and beyond. But I think right now it would be Warung Beach Club in Brazil, it’s reputation speaks for itself. Also, just as it’s cold and rainy right now in London.
How did you first get into producing music?
I’ve always been super musical, I played the violin and drums as a youngster before I started DJ’ing. Then I just started messing around on Ableton. First I was just making DJ mixes, then I started experimenting making mashups, and after that, I began programming drum beats!
Who are the top 5 acts who you would say have influenced you the most?
What’s your favourite App that you use on your phone?
WhatsApp is probably the most commonly used.
What does your music studio setup consist of?
Apple Mac Pro, Novation Polyphonic Synth, Ableton APC 40, Ableton Push 2, M-Audio KeyStation 49.
What was your first track you released and on what label did this come out on?
A track called ‘Hoop‘ on Dan Mckie’s 1980 Recordings. I’m grateful to Dan for believing in me and getting the first track released.
What’s your normal time scale for writing and completing tracks?
Usually over 2 days, then I leave it a week or two and complete it with a fresh pair of ears.
In the hometown you live in, what is your favourite thing to get up to away from music?
I think I may have been a fish in a previous life, as one of my favourite things to do in London is going swimming!
