After speaking with Jess Bays a few months back we knew we had to get another locked down with her… here it is. A recent addition to the Void Management family, they are making sure Jess receives the full recognition she deserves.
We had a chat with her to talk about what she’s been up to so far in 2016, what her favourite track is to play and why, some exclusive news about her own productions, what the current situation is with D-Vine sounds, what its like being Sam Divines tour manager plus more…
Let’s start by talking about your biggest highlight of 2016 so far?
It’s an easy choice – playing Bugged Out In Dreamland in September! I warmed up for Solardo which was pretty epic and got to share the decks with Richy Ahmed & The Martinez Brothers!
In your sets, what’s your favourite track to play and why?
It has to be something from one of my favourites at the moment, Patrick Topping. ‘Howk‘ is a powerful roller which really takes the crowd to the next level with it’s groove. You literally can’t help but get involved when the track is pumping on a serious sound system!
Are there any plans for your own productions?
YES! Finally. I’m in the process of finishing a re-edit of one of my favourite old school tracks, which will begin to surface over the next few weeks so I’m super excited about that!
It’s a real thumper, which people probably wouldn’t have expected out of me, but I’m really falling in love with the harder tech house sound at the moment! It’s going to be really cool exploring different genres of house and finding my signature. I’m teaming up with DJ Cameo & Belgium-based producer Myles to work on a number of EP’s for 2017. So yeah, I’ve finally got the production bug!
What’s your current situation with you and D-Vine Sounds?
At the moment I’m focusing in on the social media side of things but still doing the A&R too. Sam, Kamilla & Myself have put so much passion into the label for almost 2 years now. We’ve just recently been invited to host an arena at next years We Are FSTVL which we are BUZZING about!
We’ve got Sam, Franky Rizardo, Amine Edge & Dance, Monki, DJ SKT and Myself playing on the Friday for the Campers! It’s going to be special and one not to be missed all weekend! Line up is SERIOUS!
What’s the biggest buzz about being a tour manager?
Without a doubt it has to be getting to watch Sam grow as an artist. She has had an incredible 2 years which have seen her go from strength to strength, even dropping her Sam Divine In The House Compilation last month and it going straight to No.1 on iTunes!
It’s a privilege to Tour Manager somebody as down to earth & inspiring as Sam, even if we do have one too many Sambuca’s now and then!
For 2017, what do you hope to happen for yourself?
There are a few labels in particular that I would really love to sign music too so that is going to be one of my main focuses for 2017. And to carry on playing to vibey crowds and meeting some new faces along the way!
I also want to brush up on my technical skills so I’ll be locking myself away for the winter ready to storm into whatever the next 12 months holds for me!
