Cubed DJs Pete Wheeler & Chris Wells took some time out of their busy schedule to speak with us about what they have in store for 2016. As well as both of them answering some questions, they also picked 3 tracks each which was a highlight in their DJ sets from 2015.

Let’s start with talking about your recent booking at Found festival in London… What can we expect from you guys to be playing at this?

We’ll play what we are enjoying at that moment in time, with a few forgotten gems in thrown in for good measure, seems to be a formula we most enjoy.

2016 sees Cubed head over to host a stage at Snowbox in the snow. This is such a massive achievement! What can we expect from Cubed at this?! What names can we expect to see on your stage?

Yes, we’re really excited for Snowboxx, especially as neither of us can ski…yet! The nice thing about it is we have been given a club for the night so it will feel very close to a normal Cubed night with a headliner, local support & Cubed DJs on the line-up. Our headliner at Snowboxx will be Miguel Campbell who we know will bring heat to the slopes. Joining us in support will be Whitaker who has pulled out some great sets at Cubed recently, especially when supporting Basement Jaxx. Tickets are still available for Snowboxx via our Facebook event for anyone who wants to join us out in the French Alps!

This year you’ve both had the chance of getting more behind the decks instead of behind the scenes. Where has been a highlight for both of you to play at?

(PW) Waterworks Festival was a highlight for us, playing as the sun came down over a lake to a really friendly crown was a lot of fun. Our set after Dusky also stands out as we normally play melodic warm-up sets and this was our chance to go hard and play lots of acid and techno.

(CW) The final Cubed set of the year 4-5am after Dusky my personal favourite, was dark and wonky!

Last question I know a lot of people are wondering, how did you name the bean ‘Cubed’?

It was a random idea that came out of the first meeting to start a club night at Sub89. The minute the word cube came out loads of ideas about DJing include a cube came out and Cubed was born!

CUBED DJs Pete Wheeler & Chris Wells also picked 3 tracks each which were highlights of their 2015 DJ sets.

Pete Wheeler:

1. Adesse Versions – Pride

One of the standout tracks played at Bugged Out Weekender in January, ‘Pride’ was kept tightly held onto by the Numbers crew until they released it on vinyl in April. Luckily, I managed to persuade them to give us an advanced copy which we received on the day we supported Annie Mac at Rivermead. Just before she came on we gave it the first of many plays this year…a great track.

2. Nebraska – Emotional Rescue

The first time I heard this track I knew it was going to be a mainstay for any sets where a touch of disco is in order. It was the track we opened our set before Basement Jaxx with & it set the tone very nicely for the musical journey that followed that evening. Sounds great both at its original tempo and with a few extra bpm behind it!

3. Seven Davis Jr – Sunday Morning

A key track from Seven Davis Jr’s debut album and one of the tunes that reminds me most of the Summer festivals we played in 2015. Sunday Morning made it into Cubed DJs sets at Croatia Rocks, Boardmasters and even Reading Festival…the killer bassline and vocal hook sound fantastic through any sound system.

Chris Wells:

1. Kerrier District – Discotron

2. Kornel Kovacs – Pantalon

3. Sparky – Tigress
