We had a chat with Hauswerks who is an artist that is creeping up the ladder in the underground scene. He’s already worked alongside huge names such as, Doorly, Mark Knight, Steve Lawler, Josh Butler, Anek and Raffa Fl to name a few…
We spoke about his upcoming 3 months, what his relationship is like with record label Moda Black, how he got into the music industry plus more…
Lets start with speaking about how you got yourself into the electronic music scene?
I was 15 when I got my first second hand pair of Technics as a joint Christmas and birthday present from my brothers! I guess that would have been the significant ‘First step’ into the scene for me, although I didn’t know it at the time!
The production side of things started when I was 17 and I had my first vinyl release by the time I was 18, from that moment on I was hooked and I knew this would be my life’s path. I threw myself at it and studied music tech for four years at Access To Music in Lincoln and sixteen years later I have never looked back!
Tell us about your recent relationship with record label ‘Moda’. How did this initial link up take place with such a well established label?
Jaymo and myself have been mates since before Moda even started and I got to know the rest of the crew as it built. I used to play at the little bar with them in Lincoln when it very first started, then we kind of parted ways due to music style differences when they were on the Radio 1 tip and I think I was releasing on Suara/303Lovers and such at that time.
Few years later and ‘Moda Black’ was born, with a more underground edge than the former Moda stuff this is where our styles linked up again and we started working together in a musical sense once more.
What can we expect from your productions with this record label this year?
I am not tied down with Moda Black as I mentioned in the previous question they are good friends of mine, I am more making music for myself and then thinking about appropriate homes for them when the tracks are finished so I will send them anything I feel suits as and when really.
Swamp Donkey… Any hidden stories behind naming this track?
Yeh there is actually… It came from when I was a kid, my older brothers used to refer to a particular group of girls they knew as the ‘Swamp Donkeys’ haha… kids are cruel! I’m guessing they weren’t a particularly nice bunch ahaha! I’ve been amused by this name ever since and when listening through the track trying to think of a name, as soon as the big swamp monster bass lead came in in the break, Swamp Donkey popped up in my head and it all made sense ha!
What can we expect to hear from your productions within the next 3 months?
In the next few months I have releases with/on Gruuv, Viva Music, Material Records and MadTech Records so its a busy period with EP’s and comp exclusives. Those releases include collaborations with Josh Butler, Anek and Raffa Fl.
You’ve been in the studio with some big names such as Steve Lawler, Doorly & Mark Knight… What were the studio sessions like to work with such established names?
Yeh great! I always enjoy working with other experienced artists, each of them bring something different to the table and all have experience that I can learn and improve from!
Lets speak about your Wrong Turn EP with Doorly which was released on Hot Creations…
I’ve been working with Doorly on various bits n bobs in the studio for a few years now and we’ve become good friends so it was only a matter of time before we joined forces for some Doorly & Hauswerks fodder. This release is the first of a series of ‘Wrong Turn’ releases we will be working on so keep your eyes peeled for more of that!
