Touchdown – Frazi.er

For our next Touchdown interview, we caught up with Frazi.er whilst he was on tour, prior to his performance at FAUST in Seoul.

Q1. So, tell us where you departed from and landed into today?

I left Thailand, where I was in Phuket and landed in Seoul, South Korea.

Q2. Is this a one-off show, or part of a bigger tour? (If a tour, tell us where you have been so far)

Yes, it’s been part of an Asia and Australia tour which has been amazing. I started off in Mejan Bali, has a bit of down time and took a holiday in Thailand in-between and then flew over here to Seoul. I then went on to Singapore, Melbourne and Sydney. Its been such a good tour, with some amazing venues that I’ve played at for the first time.

Q3. What venue are you playing tonight and who else is on the line up?

I played at the legendary FAUST and was headlining the show there with some residents as support.

Q4. What is one item you can’t travel without?

Without a doubt, my laptop. If any flights are delayed, I just work on music to pass the time. If it’s a long-haul flight, then one thing I struggle without is a talent for sleeping. I just can’t sleep on flights which is a problem when you have a lot of gigs in a row.

Q5. Tell us your typical gig schedule – do you get to see much of the places you visit?

If I’m playing an international gig, or a really cool city that I love, or maybe somewhere new that I’ve never been to before then I always try and arrive a day earlier if the schedule allows, so that I can see some of the sights. It also helps to have had a day of rest and acclimatising before a show.

Q6. One thing you hate about being on the road?

I hate airport security and flight delays. This just kills all the fun with travelling. Especially when sometimes you are rushing to an airport on minimal sleep and then get landed with a longer day ahead than you need.

Q7. Tell is the worst / funniest thing that’s happened to you whilst on the road

The worst thing that I can think of was how sick I was on this trip actually when we were in Bali a few weeks ago. I’ve never had sickness like it before, it was a proper bad viral infection. My throat felt like it had been cut with glass the amount I was puking. It was horrible.

As for the funniest thing, its quite hard to pick just one actually. Once when I played in Berlin a few years back, a guy in the boot told me he was on after me and there was a change in the schedule. I had about 30 mins left of my 3 hour set when he told me it was his time to start playing. All I knew was that the closing DJ was a local and out of respect, I didn’t dispute what he said, as there was no stage manager at this point. I mixed my track out and let him start. He dropped a drum and bass track the whole club stopped dancing and some even started to boo. It was at this point the promoter came running up to the booth and asked me ‘what the fuck is going on here?”. I explained what happened and then the bouncers grabbed him and escorted him out the club. He was a fraudster! Haha.

Q8. Finally, what new music do you have coming up in your schedule that you can tell us about?

I have a 5-track release coming out on old school techno label Hydraulix with a remix from Dave The Drummer, really looking forward to this one. I have a track coming out on Parallx’s new label ISARN too. This is one of my current favourite tracks of mine. And finally, my own label will be launched, called Parallel Visions.
