Our Review: Unusual Suspects at Sankeys | 20th July 2017

In our opinion, Sankeys Ibiza and Unusual Suspects, when combined, define underground. Unusual Suspects brings the notion that Artists who perform are free to present their personal music choice, without being influenced by commercial and standardisation that may be transmitted by the bigger clubs.

20th July 2017 was very special for us, Unusual Suspects created a shared emotional connection between party goers and the DJ. We believe their partnership with Sankeys has a lot to contribute for this, and we’ll explain why.

The Lab, hosted by Egg London played host to Kyle Evans, Eats Everything, Traumer and Saoirse. Whilst in the basement, we had Valentino Kanzyani, Mandar and Federico Grazzini b2b Rick Maia providing their selections.

Mandar was playing a minimal techno set, to a dark room, with essence of heavy drops which briefly lit up the in coordination with Sankeys‘ minimal light show.

Eats Everything was on booth duties upstairs in The Lab, clashing with Mandar. Following Eats Everything was Traumer, playing minimal house with heavy beats and techy drops. Also in a dark setting, where drops were complemented with a combination of long and short bursts of white light. You can really appreciate those moments when the record is playing out whilst the room is fully lit, there is a feeling of emotion which instantly connects everyone in the room together. Phenomenal.

We stayed for Traumer‘s whole set, then ventured down to what personally was my most special sets on the island this season, from Valentino Kanzyani. We’ve never seen this Slovenian before, but WOW. His old school selection of house and vibrant techno astonished us massively.

After much embraced dancing with strangers, closed-eye “fish flapping” and eye opening house and techno, Unusual Suspects provided us with an unforgettable and sensational night. You have from now until 28th September 2017 to make sure you get yourself down there.
