We had a chat with Kellie Allen to talk about what she’s been up to for the summer season which has just passed.

This includes where she is now based, whats been her biggest highlight of her career, what her style is when she performs plus more…

Lets start by talking about where you have been this summer?

Ibiza has been my home for the past few years. I’m very fortunate that I get to call such a beautiful and inspiring place my home especially as it has become the main place where I create and share my music…

What has been your biggest highlight from your career to this date?

Without a doubt, this year has been the highlight of my time over here. It all started in the winter, just after the New Year when I started trialling for Sankeys Ibiza during their winter ‘Sankeys Sabados’  parties and as a direct result of my involvement in that, I was awarded a full summer residency for Tribal Sessions at my favourite club on the island.

Where has been your favourite venue to perform at?

The Basement room at Sankeys is my favourite room to play in as it is also one of the best places to dance in.

Aside from the Void Soundsystem (mind-blowing by the way!) low ceiling and those famous strip lights, it’s a non-pretentious environment where you can dance side-by-side with strangers who don’t care who you are or what you look like – you can put your best screw face on and let the music take over. What more do you need?!

When you perform, what would you describe the sound that you play is?

I play House music. That’s it. I sometimes get a little frustrated with all of the sub-genres currently circulating in the House scene and while I know it’s important to categorise, the music I play is about a journey and being able to read the crowd and understand where you want to take them, and when.

So, you can expect to find me playing good, original, underground House music what ever time of night it is. Nuff said.

How did you first get into music, and if you could would you change anything from your career earlier on, what would it be?

For as long as I can remember I’ve been musical.

I play the piano and have played the violin as well as singing and songwriting and producing music since I left college at 16. I went to a stage school called The BRIT School, I think if I could go back and do it all again I’d have focused on Music as a diploma rather than the one I chose (Musical Theatre), but at the time all I knew was that I wanted to perform and so I guess those were my reasons back then.

I’ve since studied hard in whatever spare time I had to teach myself how to understand music theory, compose and produce my ideas into finished pieces of music.

What can we expect from your for the rest of 2016?

Well I can’t say too much right now but there is new music on the horizon which you will be able to get your hands on in November. In terms of shows, I will be a resident for the winter Sankeys Sabados parties again and I have also just launched my new weekly radio show Kellie Allen: In The Mix which launched on 13th October on Ibiza Global Radio.

Aside from that, I’m continuing on with my monthly column for Data Transmission with more of a winter focus in Ibiza so I’m a busy bee! Wouldn’t have it any other way though!
